Using Effective Generator Impedance for Forced Oscillation Source Location

چکیده
Locating the sources of forced low-frequency oscillations in power systems is an important problem. A number of proposed methods demonstrate their practical usefulness, but all of them rely on strong modeling assumptions and provide poor performance in certain cases for reasons still not well understood. This paper proposes a systematic method for locating the source of a forced oscillation by considering a generator response to fluctuations of its terminal voltage and turbine and exciter inputs. It is shown that a generator can be represented as an effective admittance matrix with respect to low-frequency oscillations, and an explicit form for this matrix, for various generator models, is derived. Furthermore, it is shown that a source generator, in addition to its effective admittance, is characterized by the presence of an effective current source thus giving a natural qualitative distinction between source and nonsource generators. Detailed descriptions are given of a source detection procedure based on this developed representation, and the method’s efficiency is confirmed by simulations on the recommended testbeds (eg. WECC 179-bus system). This method is free of strong modeling assumptions and is also shown to be robust in the presence of measurement noise and generator parameter uncertainty.

Source Location of Forced Oscillations Using Synchrophasor and SCADA Data
Recent advances in synchrophasor based oscillation monitoring algorithms have allowed engineers to detect oscillation issues that may have previously gone undetected. Although such an oscillation can be flagged and its oscillation shape can indicate the general vicinity of its source, low number of synchrophasors means that a specific generator or load that is the root cause of an oscillation c...
متن کاملServocontrolled generator to measure respiratory impedance from 0.25 to 26 Hz in ventilated patients at different PEEP levels.
Assessing respiratory impedance (Zrs) in ventilated patients over a wide frequency band, ranging from breathing rates to typical forced oscillation frequencies, during end-expiratory pauses at different positive end-expiratory pressures (PEEP) is of potential interest to assess a patient's respiratory mechanics. Zrs measurements under these conditions are not possible with the present variants ...
متن کاملMeasurement of respiratory impedance by forced oscillation: comparison of the standard and head generator methods.
Physiological and clinical studies have shown that the standard method of measuring respiratory impedance by forced oscillation leads to less efficient control of the upper airway shunt effect than the head generator method. To test the effects of these two techniques in epidemiological studies, we compared, in a sample of 73 French agricultural workers, the values obtained with each method for...

In this paper the Space Vector Control Scheme is implemented for a Wind Energy System using Three Level Impedance Source Inverter (ZSI). The wind energy system uses a Self Excited Induction generator (SEIG) which is the most emerging application in the field of Wind Energy Conversion System (WECS). The proposed system is modelled with a generator-side Diode Bridge Rectifier and a Stand-Alone si...
متن کاملImpedance-Based Out-of-Step Protection of Generator in the Presence of STATCOM
This paper presents a novel impedance-based approach for out-of-step (OOS) protection of a synchronous generator. The most popular and commonly used approaches for detecting OOS conditions are based on the measurement of positive sequence impedance at relay location. However, FACTS devices change the measured impedance value and thus disrupt the performance of impedance-based relay function. In...
